The Sea Cadets is a nationwide voluntary youth organisation, open to young people aged 12 to 18 with different sections for different ages. There is also a Junior Section open to those from 10 years of age, run by enthusiastic adult volunteers.
If you're out to enjoy life as much as possible, this is the place for you! Fun, friendship, adventure and learning new skills is what Sea Cadets are about - based on waterborne activities, and with lots of other exciting things to learn and do on land as well. Have a look and see what you could be getting involved in.
The MNTB, in conjunction with Viking Recruitment and Holland America Line, arranges "Careers at Sea Taster Days" to enable careers professionals, teachers and those interested in finding out more about the Merchant Navy the opportunity to get on board a ship and increase their knowledge of the career opportunities, job roles and fully sponsored education and training programmes. There is a tour of the ship, including 'behind the scenes' and the chance to speak with current seafarers about their working lives.

There are over 200 maritime museums in the UK ranging in size and content and they provide a fascinating insight into our maritime heritage.
Maritime museums around the country often put on tours, have specific exhibitions and some of the larger ones will have special maritime careers events, student study days and lectures on topics ranging from the marine environment to the transportation of slaves on ships in earlier times.

The JST is a registered charity that owns and operates Lord Nelson and Tenacious, the only two tall ships in the world designed and built to enable people of all physical abilities to sail side-by-side as equals.

The Tall Ships Youth Trust, incorporating the Sail Training Association, is a registered charity founded in 1956 and dedicated to the personal development of young people aged 14 to 25 through the crewing of our vessels.

The Ocean Youth Trust has 6 regional centres (Scotland, North East, East, South, North West and Ireland) which operate sailing ships that take young people aged between 12 and 24 to sea on youth development residentials. The voyages may differ in length depending on the ship and region but provide a safe, unique and extremely effective environment for the personal development of young people.

Headstart is a well-established education programme whose aim is to encourage students interested in mathematics or science to consider technology-based careers.
It provides an opportunity for those in Year 12/S5 to spend up to a week at university in the summer prior to making their UCAS application.
The Nautical Science and Marine Engineering based courses combine interactive seminars with hands-on learning using simulators, computer-based programmes and engineering workshops. You will experience a variety of things, such as:
In addition, guest speakers from industry will give you an insight into the many career choices in shipping, both at sea and ashore and explain what it's really like. By the end of the programme you should have a good understanding of the Merchant Navy and the vital role of ship staff.
