Useful things to consider when applying to
sponsoring companies
There is the potential of a variety of seatime experience on different ships with different trading patterns and of getting to know several companies and 'making your mark' in terms of possible future employment. Exceptional candidates may have the opportunity of further scholarship opportunities for higher level qualifications following the initial programme.
The programme should engender a feeling of 'belonging' and its focus will be in your potential as a future seafarer in that company's fleet. It could be the start of a 'company career' with the possibility of enhanced training to meet particular company needs, the potential for professional development within the company - not only at sea but also ashore in their ship management operations, along with early exposure to corporate benefit
Recruitment may be more flexible as the organisation will be looking for candidates for a number of different shipping companies. You may have a choice of which company you would like to work for with a range of different ship types and trading patterns or the training organisation might allocate you to a particular shipping company. On completion of your programme you may have the potential for employment with the company you were allocated to or other companies within the sponsoring organisation's client base.
Each type of organisation will have its own sponsorship package and terms and conditions that you will need to think about.
